
Martina K. Schmidt has over 20 years of practical experience in the field of education, financial management and consulting, and real estate investment and sales. Dr. Schmidt is an Instructor III of Finance and Real estate in the College of Business at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg (USFSP), where she teaches face to face and online undergraduate and graduate level classes in the topics of corporate finance and real estate. Dr. Schmidt has served on many university and professional committees and received numerous research and teaching awards. She earned her Ph.D. in Finance from Florida Atlantic University with a focus on International Finance. Her research interests include real estate, investments, global finance, fraud, finance education, and online learning. She regularly presents her research at professional conferences, has published her work in multiple peer reviewed academic journals, and is an associate editor for the Journal of Asia Business Studies. Dr. Schmidt has obtained the Quality Matters (QM) teaching online certification (TOC), is a QM higher education peer reviewer, a QM continuing education peer reviewer, and has several of her online courses QM certified.
While attending college, Dr. Schmidt was not only the #1 player on the university’s team but also coached the men’s and women’s tennis teams. She won many academic and athletic awards, such as All American tennis player, Academic All American, and MVP, which have earned her a place in the Athletic Hall of Fame at the two universities she attended.
Outside of academia, she has been an active Florida real estate licensee since 1994 and has been involved in the analysis and sale of multi-million dollar U.S. commercial and residential real estate projects. In addition, she has worked for an international aviation company in financial management and sales, conducted corporate financial training seminars, lead continuing education classes for professional business organizations, and currently consults a commodity advisory firm.
